Sunflower Bank recognized three employees with the prestigious Volunteer Star awards – presented annually to employees who devote time, talent, and effort in their respective communities.

Kim Butkovich, customer service manager of Sunflower Bank’s Pueblo offices, also earned the Sunflower Bank Volunteer Star distinction. Butkovich is committed to several causes throughout Pueblo, including service as Vice Chairman of the Board of Pueblo Diversified Industries and the games manager for fund raising. Butkovich also continues her involvement with the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, Wild Wild West Fest, and Pueblo Junior Achievement.
Christy Almquist, mortgage lender at Sunflower Bank McPherson, earned the Volunteer Star as a result of her community involvement in McPherson. Almquist donates her time to Leadership McPherson and is an active member of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, the WACCC Walk, and Sunflower Bank’s Community Ambassadors program. Almquist also is active in her church and with McPherson College and the Board of Realtors.
“We’re extremely proud not just of our Volunteer Stars, but of all our employees who continued to devote time and effort to making our communities better,” said Phyllis Pickel, Executive Vice President. “The past year featured difficult circumstances for many of our communities, causes and citizens – and we’re proud to do what we can to help our communities continue to improve.”
Sunflower Bank’s Volunteer Star awards are given annually to employee achievers throughout the organization who make a difference in their local communities. As a bank, Sunflower Bank encourages employees to spend time helping their community, and each year, Sunflower Bankers step up in response. In 2009, Sunflower Bank employees recorded more than 22,000 hours of volunteer time.
