ABC: Schools and students earn more than $75,000 in record year
Sunflower Bank wrapped up the ninth-annual ABC: Be True to Your School campaign by announcing donations of more than $74,000 to Kansas and Colorado schools and students.
In April and May, local Sunflower Bank presidents have begun delivering checks to area schools and presenting awards to local students who won Sunflower’s annual “Pay for A’s” contest. Donations resulted from the bank’s three-month drive in January, February and March, which allowed customers to earmark Sunflower Bank donations for their favorite school simply by using their debit card. Student donations resulted from the bank’s annual “Pay for A’s” contest.
“We’re proud to step up to help our communities during the current economic environment, and especially our local schools – and we’re thrilled to present higher donations to local schools than ever before,” said Phyllis Pickel, executive vice president of marketing. “As a community bank, we take great pride in assisting our area schools alleviate rising costs and tighter budgets – and it’s refreshing and fun when customers get involved to help their favorite schools.”
Sunflower Bank’s 2010 ABC donation totals rank as the bank’s highest ever during nine years. Overall, Sunflower Bank donated more than $75,000 combined to various schools and students throughout 20 communities in Kansas and Colorado. In nine years, Sunflower Bank now has given more than $429,000 to area schools and students in its respective communities.
The program allows customers to earn money for the participating school of their choice whenever they use their Sunflower Bank debit card. Upon account opening, new customers also could request Sunflower Bank match a deposit to a participating school of their choice.
Sunflower Bank’s annual ABC Program strives to encourage students to excel in their schoolwork. Local students everywhere had the chance to get “paid for their A’s!” From January through March, students turned in current report cards to local Sunflower Banks. On April 1, each Sunflower Bank office chose five student winners – and winning students earned $10 for every A on their report card.
Sunflower Bank then matched the student’s reward check with an identical donation to the student’s school. Nearly 150 students earned money for their “A’s” in 2010.
Sunflower Bank’s ABC: Be True to Your School has become a welcome tradition in many communities, including the surrounding areas the bank serves. Committed to its mission of “Bringing out the best in the lives we touch … Creating Possibility,” Sunflower Bank focuses on the improvement of its communities and the circumstances of local citizens. The ABC Program is one initiative, and the bank contributes to many more community causes and organizations and offers support throughout its Kansas, Colorado and Missouri markets.
