Student-Athlete Star of the Week launched
McPHERSON, Kan. – Sunflower Bank announces its Student-Athlete Star of the Week program, appearing each Thursday in The McPherson Sentinel’s sports section.
Beginning on February 22, the bank will designate a local high school student-athlete as the Student-Athlete Star of the Week. Each Thursday’s McPherson Sentinel Sports section will showcase the Student-Athlete Star with a congratulatory display featuring a short bio about the student-athlete. Students also will be rewarded with a commemorative poster, and will be recognized throughout the year at Sunflower Bank McPherson, upon the bank’s Student-Athlete Wall of Fame.
For selection, student-athletes may play any varsity-level sport, and they must be exemplary athletes, but also must exhibit considerable leadership skills within the classroom and off the field. Sunflower Bank will accept nominations from local schools in the Sentinel’s coverage area each week and will select a student-athlete star for publication each Thursday. Sunflower Bank will select one Student-Athlete Star each week during the academic and athletic year.
“We’re extremely excited to reward some of the McPherson area best and brightest athletic stars,” said Chet Lang, president-Sunflower Bank McPherson. “We’re committed to developing leaders in our communities – and many student-athletes are excellent examples of present and future leadership.”
Sunflower Bank also has launched a statewide initiative to aid the development of student-athlete leadership, serving as the primary sponsor of Leadership On & Off the Field: leadership development for the student athlete, a program created by the Kansas Youth Leadership Academy with the first seminar at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in Wichita on March 27-28.
