ABC Program results in $52,000 to area schools

Sunflower Bank announced today that its ABC’s of the Be True To Our Schools program was once again a huge success in all communities served by Sunflower Bank.

This is the sixth year of the “ABC Program”, designed to support local schools and to encourage students to excel in their schoolwork. At the close of the 2007 program, Sunflower Bank donated a total of nearly $52,000 to various schools throughout its communities. In six years since the program’s inception, Sunflower Bank has now given a grand total of $225,000 to area schools in its respective communities.

The program – a yearly January, February and March tradition – consists of three facets, all which can result in donations to participating area schools:

  1. We Pay For A’s. Beginning January 1, Sunflower Bank invited students to bring a copy of their most recent report card into their local bank. On March 1, Sunflower Bank drew five winners at each participating location – plus one winner in each location from Sunflower Bank employees’ children. The winners received $10 for every “A” achieved on their report card, and Sunflower Bank donated the same amount to each student’s school.

Thousands of students entered a report card to a Sunflower Bank location, and through the “Pay For A’s” program, Sunflower Bank wrote checks totaling $8740 to winning area students who earned A’s on their report cards. In April, student winners filmed television commercials, proudly displaying their winning checks.

  2. Bucks For Our Schools. From January through March, Sunflower Bank debit card customers who designated an “ABC school” earned 10 cents for their school each time they used their debit card with a PIN, and 20 cents when they signed for a transaction.

  3. Checking is free at Sunflower Bank. Each new customer who participated in the “Switch To Sunflower” Campaign, earning up to $100, also could designate a school to receive a matching donation.
