Kansas Energy Efficiency Program expanded, available at Sunflower Bank
TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) has expanded its Kansas Energy Efficiency Program, or “KEEP,” allowing more Kansas homeowners to save energy and reduce home heating costs.
KEEP, with Salina-based Sunflower Bank as official statewide lender, provides qualified homeowners with means to obtain low-interest loans to purchase energy efficient heating systems and for other energy-conserving home improvements.
“We have eliminated KEEP’s income requirements, which means even more families can make long-lasting, energy-conscious upgrades to their homes,” said Christine Reimler, KHRC’s homeownership Manager. “KEEP is a great way to keep utility costs down, conserve energy and stay warm over the winter,” said Reimler.
In addition to eliminating income requirements, KHRC also increased the maximum loan amount homeowners can receive. KHRC will now fund half of loan amounts, up to a maximum of $10,000. Sunflower Bank funds the remainder of the loan, and loan amounts may be higher as determined by Sunflower. Funding for KEEP is $2 million and is part of Governor Kathleen Sebelius’ Warm Homes Project.
“We’re pleased to continue as KEEP’s official lender, and extremely pleased to see the program’s umbrella expand to help more Kansas homeowners and more Kansas families,” said Mollie Carter, President & CEO of Sunflower Bank.
Home improvements allowed under KEEP include:
- Installing specified ENERGY STAR propane furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, water heaters and ventilation systems.
- Installing wall and floor insulation, new storm doors and windows, and weather-stripping.
- Air sealing, duct work and the purchase of certain ENERGY STAR appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, dish washers and programmable thermostats.
