Policy Statement

Sunflower Bank, N.A. (SBNA) takes great care to protect the confidential nature of current and former customer financial records. We believe that customer privacy should not be compromised. Since your privacy is a priority to us, SBNA will not share nonpublic information about you with third parties outside of the SBNA corporate family without your consent, except as explained in our privacy policy. At the same time, we want to offer the wide array of financial products and services customers need to accomplish their financial goals. We strive to accomplish both by following the privacy policy outlined below.

SBNA follows policies designed to ensure that the Bank:

  • Collects, uses and retains customer information only when it believes it will help business operations or provide products, services and other opportunities for customers
  • Maintains internal procedures so that customer information is current and complete in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Restricts and otherwise limits access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees with a business reason to know that information in order to provide products or services to you
  • Maintains physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to protect your nonpublic personal information
  • Maintains security standards and procedures to prevent unauthorized access to confidential customer information
  • Periodically tests the information system networks for risks of intrusion in order to protect confidential customer information
  • Discloses our privacy policy and commitment to our customers

To safeguard customer information, SBNA will maintain written agreements prohibiting unauthorized dissemination of customer information with companies hired to provide operational support or to promote products or services on behalf of the bank.

Collection of information

We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms
  • Information voluntarily provided by you to us via correspondence, etc.
  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others, and
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency

We may use “cookies”—strings of numbers or letters we place in your computer memory. For example, the cookies we use help us to “remember” your ZIP code so you don’t have to enter it more than once during the same visit to our site. The cookies we use do not contain your name, your password, your Social Security number or any private information about you.

Use of information

We do not market the nonpublic personal financial information of current and former customers to telemarketers and third-party retailers. Instead, we disclose information that we collect only as appropriate to provide quality service and total security in the manner described in this policy.

Disclosure of information

We do not disclose your nonpublic personal information to any third party except as described below. “Nonpublic personal information” is nonpublic information about you that is personally identifiable and that we obtain in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. Nonpublic information includes information regarding your account balance, payment history, and purchase activity.

Information sharing with affiliates

SBNA and the SBNA family of companies (“affiliates”) may share information with each other if the information is required to provide the product or service you have requested. We are also permitted to share certain types of information with financial service providers we are associated with, such as mortgage bankers, securities broker-dealers, and insurance agents. An example of an affiliate would be our affiliated insurance agencies that do business under the name Sunflower Insurance Group. SBNA and its affiliates are always permitted by law to share certain types of information with each other, including customer identification information; customer transaction information; and customer experience information.

Information sharing with nonaffiliates

SBNA may share information with all other third parties (nonaffiliates), when required by law, such as regulatory agencies, law enforcement or other government authorities; or as permitted by law, including, but not limited to, when it is necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction, and to protect or prevent actual or potential fraud; or when requested or consented to by you.

We may also disclose all of the information we collect to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf.

Customer information and data is not exchanged via email outside the Sunflower Bank and Sunflower Insurance Group network without encryption.

Emails containing customer information are encrypted between Sunflower Bank and certain third-party vendors. In addition, Sunflower Bank will never ask for sensitive information from customers (account number, PIN, social security number) via email.

Fair Credit Reporting Act

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other applicable law, customers have the right to prevent the sharing of certain information that bears on their creditworthiness, personal characteristics, mode of living or the like (other than identification, transaction, and experiential information). SBNA does not share that information with anyone, including its affiliates, at this time. If SBNA should decide to disclose such information in the future, customers will be contacted and have a right to opt out of having that information disclosed by following the procedures set forth at that time.

SBNA and its affiliates do exchange identification, transaction, and experiential information with each other. Except when you have a pre-existing business relationship with the party receiving that information, this information may not be used for marketing solicitations unless you have been notified that this information may be used by the receiver to make marketing solicitations to you and you have been given an opportunity to opt out of such solicitations. SBNA and its affiliates do not use this information for the purpose of making marketing solicitations at this time. If SBNA and its affiliates should decide to use this information in the future, customers will be contacted and have a right to opt out of having that information used by following procedures set forth at that time.

Right to opt out from information sharing with nonaffiliates

SBNA reserves the right to disclose nonpublic personal information to nonaffiliated third parties even though it does not currently do so. Customers have a right to opt out of that disclosure to nonaffiliated third parties, except as permitted by law, by following the opt out procedure set forth herein.

If two or more consumers jointly obtain financial products or services from SBNA, any of the joint consumers may exercise the right to opt out. If a joint consumer elects to opt out of disclosure of his/her information, that decision to opt out will also apply to all of the consumer’s associated joint account relationships.

Opt out procedure

You may opt out of those disclosure(s) by:

  1. printing the opt out form, marking the appropriate check-off box located on that form and returning it to SBNA; or
  2. calling the Sunflower Bank Call Center at (785) 826-2295 during business hours from the Salina area or 1-888-827-5564 (toll free) from anywhere in the United States, Monday—Friday 8 AM—8 PM, Saturday 8 AM—4 PM central standard time. Our business days are Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
