A Culture Built on Empowerment

For Jed, the heart of Sunflower Bank’s culture is the people. He’s connected with colleagues and peers who not only push themselves but also want to see others win. Accountability plays a huge role in this shared success. Ambitious goals are expected, but so is the support to reach them.

“There are times when an ambitious goal might seem out of reach,” says Jed. “But leadership here gives you that push in the right direction—creating a growth environment that helps you succeed.”

Knowing he’s empowered also helps Jed reach his goals. He and his team can make decisions, move fast, and get things done. He explains that while some people may hear “bank” and expect layers of process, the reality at Sunflower Bank is very different.

“In many ways, we’re able to operate like an independent mortgage banker (IMB) and move just as fast,” says Jed. “It’s easy to get business done here, and because we offer so many different products, it’s hard to find a loan that we can’t do.”

That empowerment also extends to ideas. New hires regularly bring product ideas from previous employers, and if they’re a good fit, the team evaluates and adds them. Senior and regional leaders champion this culture of empowerment because they understand the industry and stay close to the work.

Leadership That Understands the Work

Jed appreciates that leadership, from the C-suite to his fellow regional managers, understands what it takes to succeed inJed Anantasomboon and Josh Martin from Sunflower Bank the mortgage business. Open-door access, active listening, and mentoring make it easy for team members to ask questions, share ideas, and grow.

One distinction that makes Sunflower Bank different, says Jed, is that regional leaders still originate. That firsthand experience means they can help loan officers navigate systems and solve challenges because they are originating at high levels themselves.

When you combine that leadership approach with the resources Sunflower Bank provides, Jed says you have everything you need from an organization to excel.

Resources to Support Success

Jed groups Sunflower Bank’s resources into two buckets:

  • Employee benefits: From personalized PTO to a 401(K) match to self-funded insurance, he says the benefits allow him to stay present for what matters now while planning for the future.
  • Products, portfolio, and platform: Sunflower Bank’s strong portfolio of solutions gives mortgage loan originators tools to grow their pipeline and build lasting relationships. Exclusive mortgage products for diverse borrowers and a streamlined platform empower Jed and his team to serve clients with confidence

These resources, paired with culture and leadership, have helped Jed fuel steady growth. Each year since joining, Jed has set a new personal record. As he puts it, “I literally can’t imagine doing this at any other company because our platform is just so unique.”

Living His Passion

Jed loves that his role lets him both originate and lead a team. Watching and helping people grow their careers is one of his passions, and he brings that to work every day. As a Regional Sales Manager, he helps his team set goals, break them down into actionable steps, and provides encouragement and guidance as they chase them.

His advice for anyone looking to succeed in the mortgage industry is simple:

  • Have no fear and develop a thick skin. You may hear "no” a lot but keep setting up meetings and building relationships.

  • Perfect your answer to the question “Why should someone work with me?” Jed explains that closing on time is expected—it’s not your differentiator. Instead, focus on how you add value, like helping a realtor secure one more deal per month. When you help others reach their goals, they’ll help you reach yours.

At Sunflower Bank, Jed's found a place where employees are empowered, ideas are welcome, leaders stay connected, and resources make success possible. It’s a winning combination that keeps Jed’s career moving forward, and one he’s excited to build for the years to come.
