Our mortgage division, Guardian Mortgage, carries the same pride in giving back to our communities as Sunflower Bank, so when our Spokane, WA team saw a need in their community after a devastating tragedy, they stepped up to offer support where they could. “We wanted to give back in a way that would create a direct impact for the people that need it the most here locally in our community,” said Matt Penny, Guardian Mortgage Loan Originator.
The 2023 Gray Fire in Spokane County left a lot of community members dealing with loss and displacement. Our Guardian Mortgage team contacted Our Place Community Outreach to see how they could help recovery efforts. Our Place was receiving plenty of clothing and household goods donations—in fact, an empty warehouse full—but the boxes of items needed to be sorted for distribution. That’s when the Guardian Mortgage team stepped in to help get these donations turned back around to the community faster. “This was exactly the missing piece that was needed,” Our Place Volunteer Coordinator, Alyx Franz shared.
Jordan Jarvis, Guardian Mortgage Loan Originator reflected, “I know people personally that had everything they own burned and lost. This a chance to be able to come alongside those people and help them out and a great opportunity to be involved.”
