The ERC is a payroll tax refund for 2020 and certain periods of 2021 available to eligible businesses that experienced operating restrictions or a decline in total receipts in 2020 and/or 2021 but retained employees.1
Businesses can find out if they are eligible to apply for an ERC tax credit by visiting an online portal created for Sunflower Bank, N.A. and answering a few basic questions related to W2 employee status and revenues in 2020/2021. Eligible businesses include those which have:
- Been in business for 2 or more years
- A minimum of two (2) employees
And meet any of the below criteria:
- Been impacted, directly or indirectly, by a full or partial suspension of operations due to orders from a governmental authority during 2020 or the first three quarters of 2021
- Experienced a significant decline in gross receipts during the same time period
- Qualified as a recovery startup business for the third or fourth quarters of 2021
